Research and Evaluation Associate

HTA is a consulting firm that offers a complete range of grant writing, research, evaluation, planning, and training for a client-base including city and county government agencies, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and foundations. We work in behavioral health, preK-12 and postsecondary education, social services, criminal justice, workforce development, and other social science fields. We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented candidate for the Research and Evaluation Associate position. The Associate is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing evaluation activities, including literature reviews, data collection, data analysis, interpretation, reporting, and dissemination. The position involves cross-disciplinary work and will offer opportunities to explore the relationships among policy, practice, and research. The Associate will report to the Director of Evaluation. This is a full time position in Berkeley, CA that will be virtual during the COVID-19 pandemic and stay-at-home orders. The Associate will be expected to meet with clients or conduct data collection activities in person in the San Francisco Bay Area once it is safe to do so.

 

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for this position include:

  • Master’s Degree in social sciences, education, public health, social work, or other applicable field, including training in evaluation-focused data collection and analysis; or at least three years of equivalent experience
  • Excellent statistical, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex evaluation findings and concepts in ways that are accessible to all stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience with quantitative analysis, and proficiency with statistical software, such as SPSS
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing plans and data collection instruments for mixed-methods evaluation or research
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent follow-through
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with communities and organizations that are diverse in terms of race, ethnicity, language, culture, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual identity, and differential ableness
  • Ability to work respectfully and listen deeply to all constituents and stakeholders in order to ensure the accuracy and positive impact of our planning and evaluation services
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects at once, and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work independently as part of a team
  • Must have a suitable work from home space
  • Demonstrated familiarity with local communities, services, and social and economic contexts in the San Francisco Bay Area

 

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Experience and familiarity with evaluation/research projects that explore the intersection of multiple disciplines, such as K-12 education and behavioral health, early childhood development and health/nutrition, etc.
  • Experience working in a public or nonprofit health, social service, criminal justice, or educational setting
  • Oral and written fluency in Spanish, Cantonese, Vietnamese, or other languages used widely in the Bay Area
  • Experience using video conferencing for meetings, focus groups, and/or personal interviews

 

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with team members to develop, plan, and implement evaluations for large scale, multi-year projects in the fields of education, public health, and social services
  • Develop, plan, and implement evaluations for small-scale or single-year projects
  • Conduct literature reviews on relevant instrumentation and methodologies
  • Develop and/or select age-/culturally-appropriate data collection instruments
  • Develop and coordinate data collection activities including administering surveys, conducting interviews, performing observations, facilitating focus groups, and other methods as appropriate for each project
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses, and clearly present findings using charts, tables, graphs, and written text
  • Synthesize results and write, present, and communicate research/evaluation findings to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ensure that product deliverables meet HTA and client specifications
  • Exercise flexibility regarding diversity of projects, assisting and supporting team members, and performing tasks necessary to produce high quality work
  • Maintain collaborative and positive relationships with clients and team members, with open and clear lines of communication
  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct data collection activities including administering surveys, conducting interviews, performing observations, facilitating focus groups, and other methods in person or virtually as appropriate for each project

 

Salary & Benefits

Salary is $65-75K per year (depending on experience) plus medical/dental benefits, paid time off, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, and 401K. This is a full-time position that will be virtual at least during the COVID-19 pandemic and stay-at-home orders. Employees will be provided with an office computer and supplies and a monthly home office stipend.
