HTA Consulting is a dynamic consulting firm committed to advancing equity and justice, founded in 1997. We provide strategic planning, capacity building, research and evaluation services, and grant writing, to public and private organizations. We serve foundations, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, collaborations, cities and county agencies – in the fields of public health, education, social services, anti-poverty, adult and juvenile justice, early childhood, workforce development, and community change. Most of our work benefits low-income communities of color around the Bay Area and across California. We are seeking a motivated, self-directed, and detail-oriented Associate to join our team. Given the small size of our firm, this position offers the opportunity for hands-on engagement with multiple projects and for professional growth.

 

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented candidate for the Research and Evaluation Associate position. The Associate is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing evaluation activities, including literature reviews, data collection, data analysis, interpretation, reporting, and dissemination. The position involves cross-disciplinary work and will offer opportunities to explore the relationships among policy, practice, and research. The Associate will report to the Director of Evaluation. This position will be remote/work from home for the foreseeable future. However, the Associate will be expected to attend periodic staff meetings at our Berkeley office, and to occasionally meet with clients and/or conduct data collection activities in person throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

 

The ideal candidate has…

  • Advanced degree (MA/MS, PhD, etc.) in social sciences, education, public health, social work, or other applicable field, including training in evaluation-focused data collection and analysis; or at least five years of equivalent work experience.
  • Excellent statistical, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex evaluation findings and concepts in ways that are accessible to all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in research and evaluation design, instrument development, and quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and fluency with:
    • Statistical analysis
    • Statistical software/syntax, such as IBM SPSS Statistics (preferred), Stata, R, or similar;
    • Qualitative data analysis and coding
    • Preferred: Qualitative coding software, such as NVivo (preferred), ATLAS.ti or similar.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent follow-through.
  • Demonstrated understanding of local communities, services, and their social and economic contexts in the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with communities and organizations that are diverse in terms of race, ethnicity, language, culture, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual identity, and differential ableness.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and sustain professional client relations.
  • Ability to work respectfully and listen deeply to all constituents and stakeholders in order to ensure the accuracy and positive impact of our consulting services.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects at once, and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must have a suitable work from home space.

 

Preferred qualifications include…

  • Experience and familiarity with evaluation/research projects that explore the intersection of multiple disciplines
  • Experience using video conferencing for meetings, focus groups, and/or personal interviews.
  • Experience working in a public or nonprofit health, social service, criminal justice, or educational setting.
  • Oral and written fluency in Spanish, Cantonese, Vietnamese, or other languages used widely in the Bay Area.

 

Primary responsibilities include…

  • Serving as lead on all aspects of a small-scale or single-year projects.
    • Conduct literature reviews on relevant instrumentation and methodologies
    • Develop evaluation plan, timeline, and evaluation strategies.
    • Define goals, objectives and expected outcomes.
    • Identify data to be collected, and develop and/or select age-/culturally-appropriate data collection instruments, as needed.
    • Develop and coordinate data collection activities including administering surveys, conducting interviews, performing observations, facilitating focus groups, and other methods as appropriate for each project. Train clients/clients’ staff to use instruments, as needed.
    • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses, and clearly present findings using charts, tables, graphs, and written text.
    • Synthesize results and write, present, and communicate research/evaluation findings to a wide range of stakeholders.
    • Ensure that product deliverables meet HTA and client specifications.
  • Collaborating with team members to develop, plan, and implement evaluations for large scale, multi-year projects in the fields of education, public health, and social services.
  • Exercising flexibility regarding diversity of projects, assisting and supporting team members, and performing tasks necessary to produce high quality work.
  • Maintaining collaborative and positive relationships with clients and team members, with open and clear lines of communication.
  • Developing, coordinating, and conducting data collection activities including administering surveys, conducting interviews, performing observations, facilitating focus groups, and other methods in person or virtually as appropriate for each project.

 

Salary & Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary range is between $65-75K per year (depending on experience) plus medical/dental benefits, paid time off, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, and 401K. This is a full-time position that will be virtual at least during the COVID-19 pandemic and stay-at-home orders. Employees will be provided with an office computer and supplies and a monthly home office stipend.
