HTA congratulates Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) for its Fostering Diverse Schools planning grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The new program is aimed at closing opportunity gaps and improving outcomes for underserved students by reducing racial and socioeconomic isolation in the nation’s schools. OUSD was one of just 10 recipients—and the only California awardee—to receive the $1 million award, which it will use to develop a comprehensive Diversification Plan aimed at increasing equity and enrollment in its 84 schools.
